Most dumpster companies rent you whatever they have in the yard. We start with the job: what you’re removing, how much of it, and where the dumpster has to sit. Then we check roll-off and trailer providers near you and quote the one that fits.

Dumpster sizes
| Size | Typical footprint | Holds about | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 yard | 12 ft × 8 ft | 3 pickup loads | Single-room cleanout, small bathroom remodel |
| 15 yard | 14 ft × 8 ft | 4–5 pickup loads | Garage or basement cleanout, deck removal |
| 20 yard | 20 ft × 8 ft | 6 pickup loads | Roof tear-off up to about 30 squares, flooring, kitchen remodel |

Dimensions vary slightly by provider. Heavy materials like concrete, dirt and shingles have weight limits, so we’ll size those for you.
Roll-off or trailer dumpster?
We book both, so the dumpster fits the job instead of the other way around. Not sure? Pick “No preference” in the quote form and we’ll recommend one.
| Compare | Roll-off dumpster | Trailer dumpster |
|---|---|---|
| Sizes | 10 to 40 yards | Usually 10 to 20 yards |
| Best for | Construction, demolition, roofing tear-offs, large cleanouts | Home projects, cleanouts, small roofs, tight driveways |
| Placement | Set down by a roll-off truck. Needs room for the truck to back in. | Rolls in on wheels. Easier on driveways and narrow lots. |
| Loading | Walk-in rear door on most containers | Lower sides, easy to toss into |
| Availability | Widely available in every market we serve | Depends on local providers, often faster for small jobs |
What can go in the dumpster
Household junk, furniture, construction and remodeling debris, roofing shingles, wood, drywall and yard waste are all fine. Concrete, dirt and brick usually need their own dumpster because of weight.
Not allowed: paint and solvents, tires, batteries, propane tanks, appliances with refrigerant, and hazardous or medical waste. If you’re unsure about something, put it in the notes on your quote request.
Dumpster rental questions
How long can I keep the dumpster?
Choose 1–3 days, 4–7 days or 8–14 days in the quote form. Longer rentals are available and quoted separately.
What if I go over the weight limit?
Each quote lists the included weight. Extra tonnage is billed at the local provider’s rate, which we include in your quote.
Will it damage my driveway?
Providers place boards under roll-off rails on request. Trailer dumpsters are lighter on driveways.
Do I need a permit?
Not on private property. If the dumpster must sit on the street, some cities require a permit and we’ll flag that when we quote.
