A roll-off is a steel container that a truck slides onto your driveway or job site and hauls away when you’re done. It’s the workhorse for heavy debris and big volumes, and most containers have a rear door you can walk a wheelbarrow through.
When a roll-off is the right call
- Roofing tear-offs and multi-layer shingle removal
- Kitchen, bath and whole-home remodels
- New construction and additions
- Demolition and concrete or dirt removal (with weight limits)
- Estate and whole-house cleanouts
Roll-off sizes
| Size | Typical footprint | Holds about | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 yard | 12 ft × 8 ft | 3 pickup loads | Single-room cleanout, small bathroom remodel |
| 15 yard | 14 ft × 8 ft | 4–5 pickup loads | Garage or basement cleanout, deck removal |
| 20 yard | 20 ft × 8 ft | 6 pickup loads | Roof tear-off up to about 30 squares, flooring, kitchen remodel |
| 30 yard | 22 ft × 8 ft | 9 pickup loads | Additions, whole-home cleanouts, new construction |
| 40 yard | 22 ft × 8 ft | 12 pickup loads | Demolition and large commercial jobs |
Dimensions vary slightly by provider. Heavy materials like concrete, dirt and shingles have weight limits, so we’ll size those for you.
Placement checklist
- About 60 feet of straight access for the truck to back in
- 14 feet of overhead clearance, clear of wires and branches
- Firm, level ground. Ask for boards to protect asphalt.
- Street placement may need a city permit
